Best Time of Year for Mauritius Weddings
October is one of the best months of the year for Mauritius Weddings. It has the lowest rainfall figures and pretty near perfect temperatures. May is another good month. It’s a pleasant time at the tail end of a hot summer season, but still a warm time for tourists. Cyclone season occurs between January and April, rainy season usually runs between January and March.
We would also recommend that you avoid July to August, which is when the south easterly trade winds blow strongest, lowering temperatures and playing havoc with wedding photography.

Legal Requirements for Mauritius Weddings
You will need to produce 2 copies of the below documents at least 8 weeks before you depart from the UK. Mauritius weddings take place Monday to Friday only (excluding public holidays), and you will need to plan in advance as you will need to give the Supreme Court at least one month’s notice. We also suggest that you are in Mauritius for at least three days before your wedding date.
- Copies of passports
- Copies of birth certificates that have been re-issued and dated within 3 months of your wedding date
- Decree absolute (if divorced)
- Deed Poll (if name has changed)
- Death Certificate and previous marriage certificate if widowed
- Non English documentation must be translated into English and duly stamped.
- You will also need to take 2 passport photos each with you to Mauritius.
The Mauritian Government now requires all couples getting married in Mauritius to have their birth certificates re-issued and dated within 3 months of your wedding date. This will negate your need to visit the Attorney at Law and Supreme High Court in Mauritius. You will however still need to visit the Civil Status main office in Port Louis and the Civil Status Sub Office. New UK birth certificates can be ordered online at www.gov.uk/order-copy-birth-death-marriage-certificate
Please take care not to order these too early as the date of issue must be no earlier than 3 months before your wedding date. All original documentation and paperwork must be taken with you to produce at the relevant offices when completing the formalities once you are in Mauritius. Should you hold a non UK birth certificates, you will need to check with your own Embassy for advice on how to obtain a new birth certificate. In some circumstances, where it is not possible to obtain a duplicate birth certificate, arrangements must be made to complete an Affidavit before travelling to Mauritius. This signed Affidavit must also be dated within 3 months of the wedding date and copies sent to us together with all other documentation.
Your wedding will be carried out by a licensed marriage officer, which ensures your wedding is completely legal and recognised by UK law. The minimum age you can be married in Mauritius is 18.
If you have been divorced for longer than 10 months then all that is required is a copy of your decree absolute. By Mauritian law if the bride to be has been divorced for 10 months or less she will need a Mauritian Doctor’s certificate of non-pregnancy. If the bride to be is already pregnant you would have to wait until she has been divorced for more than 10 months before you can get married.
